A creative and explicit writing lesson for grades 3-6 that teaches students how to write a noun poem. Students will deepen their understanding of nouns and use them alphabetically to create a noun poem of their own, after contributing to a class poem. Heavily scaffolded and easily differentiated, this lesson works well when introducing poetry, or when revising parts of speech, and most importantly, is fun!

Crafting Poetry

This unit of work will explicitly step students through several engaging poetry lessons that will support students in creating their own poetic masterpieces. This unit dives into understanding what poetry is and unpacking some of the literary devices used to create poetry magic. These lessons can be taught as standalone lessons, and will work with a range of mentor texts.
